Mr Mayilone Arumugasamy is a Consultant Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon with 10 years experience in Bariatric surgery in Ireland and has managed hundreds of patients in this field. He set up the Bariatric unit at Blackrock Clinic in 2008. His Bariatric surgical interests include laparoscopic gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (see results below).
He graduated from RCSI receiving the Medal in Surgery in 1993 and obtained the FRCSI in 1997 and Masters in Surgery in 2001 (RCSI/NUI). Following Irish Higher Surgical Training, he completed an 18 month Bariatric Fellowship in Liverpool (Spire Murrayfield and University Hospital Aintree). He was first a consultant upper GI surgeon in Cork in 2006 and subsequently appointed consultant upper GI surgeon to Beaumont and Connolly Hospitals RCSI in 2009 where he performs laparoscopic oesophageal and gastric cancer surgery. Other interests also include general surgery (cholecystectomies, hernia repair), laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, endoscopy, investigation of reflux and dysphagia. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in RCSI and member of BOMSS (British Obesity and Metabolic Surgical Society).
